The Awakening digs deeper into Philip’s character, and it cements him as a developing hero type.

What’s most impressive is the level of detail that is added to this very fast-paced read. You’re entertained throughout, and with each page, you’re able to picture exactly what the authors are describing because of their very vivid and descriptive wording.

And, of course, what’s a horror story without frightening content? The Awakening has quite a few tense chapters and some that harken back to the days of older ghost stories, with a focus on dread-building over quick, suspenseful bits (the book equivalent of a jumpscare).

I enjoyed The Awakening quite a bit, and if you’re a fan of horror stories in book form, this is the story to check out.
